Last month, CACY Board Members Lisa Givens, Deanne Drda, Erin Myrent, and Aria Flis-Chen had the opportunity to attend the Colorado Health Symposium through a fellowship with The Colorado Health Foundation.
Over four days, they heard from an extraordinary lineup of speakers, connected with people working to advance health equity and justice across Colorado, and experienced the power of bringing diverse voices and perspectives together around a shared commitment to healthier communities.
For CACY, participating in conversations like these is especially important.
Caregiving youth often live at the intersection of education, healthcare, family caregiving, and community support. Yet their responsibilities and experiences can remain invisible within the very systems designed to help young people and families thrive.
The Symposium offered an opportunity to listen, learn, build relationships, and consider how CACY can continue strengthening its role in the broader health equity conversation.
One message from the experience continues to resonate:
None of us is responsible for doing everything, but each of us can do something.
CACY knows what our “something” is.
We will continue working to make caregiving youth visible, valued, and supported, while advocating for greater recognition of their experiences in schools, healthcare settings, and communities throughout Colorado.
Our board members returned from the Symposium with new ideas, strengthened connections, and renewed energy for the work ahead.
CACY extends its appreciation to The Colorado Health Foundation for creating a space where leaders and changemakers can learn from one another, challenge assumptions, build relationships, and imagine what greater health equity can look like across our state.
